Herkkumaa Group Oy has appointed Ilpo Mäkelä as its new Chief Executive Officer. He will assume the position on 17 August 2026.

The appointment is part of Herkkumaa’s long-term growth strategy and the continued development of its leadership. After serving as the company’s CEO for many years, Atte Rekola will continue with the Group as Senior Advisor and a member of the Board of Directors. In his new role, he will take on increased responsibility for developing the Group’s international business and leading its export operations. Wilma Invest Oy, the Rekola family’s investment company, will continue as one of the principal shareholders of Herkkumaa Group.

Founded in 1987, Herkkumaa has grown from a Finnish food company into a leading player in its field. The company’s ambition is to strengthen its position in the domestic market while expanding its business internationally. The leadership transition supports these objectives by reinforcing operational leadership and creating even stronger conditions for developing the Group’s international business.

Ilpo Mäkelä brings more than 20 years of experience in business development and leadership. Throughout his career, he has led growth companies and nationwide business operations while being responsible for strategic development. He also has extensive experience in international business. Most recently, he served as CEO of MVJA Group Oy and MV-Jäähdytys Oy. His strong background in leading growth companies provides an excellent foundation for supporting Herkkumaa’s next phase of development, as the company aims to strengthen its domestic business while accelerating international growth.
